PENNYWISE The secret
Lalo: If we had not listened to Pennywise years ago, we would not have formed the band. I remember that when I found the CD I phoned André and said: You should listen to this band, the guitar riffs reminds a lot of the metal bands we like. André listened to it and said: I finally found one band as my musical influence, I wish I could play in one band like this.
André: This is how everything started for Nitrominds: melodic voice, 50% metal, 50% hardcore.
Edu: Pennywise has opened my ears for melodic hardcore. I was never a big fan of melodic bands, only if they are really good.
BAD RELIGION News from the front
Lalo: For me these guys are the masters of this style. This song was a complicated choice, as in my opinion BR have a lot of classic songs, but this one was perfect for our style. Rodrigo of Dead Fish did the vocal parts really well and he is also a big fan of BR.
7 SECONDS We’re gonna fight
Lalo: Classic song, classic band, they invented all this shit!
André: I think they created this kind of melodic hardcore, punk rock, whatever you call it. Since I formed Nitrominds I really wanted to play this song at least once.
DOWN BY LAW All American
Lalo: I’m a big fan of Dave Smalley, of Dag Nasty, ALL ... „All American“ is one of the best songs he did.
André: I am very proud that in 2000 I played guitar for 7 shows here in Brasil for them. We are friends since then. Dave sings with the heart and he is a great musician.
BAMBIX Monozygotic
Lalo: We are brothers, they are like family, and I’m a big fan of them. I think they have the best female singer ever, and when then they came to Brazil, we toured together, then in Europe, then again and again ... This song is a killer.
André: Hey Willia, it was hard to sing like you. I hope you like it!
AGENT ORANGE Bloodstains
Lalo: AGENT ORANGE, formed in 1977 in California, a mix of punk and surf music, with basic riffs, beautiful and energetic. Mike Palm rules!
André: It was and always will be one of my favorite songs.
D.R.I. Shut up!
Edu: I always was influenced by D.R.I., I used to play many cover songs in my first metal band in the 80’s. Top 10 for me.
NUCLEAR ASSAULT Survive
Lalo: „What the fuck!?“ This was what I said when I first heard this band. It was 1986, and the father of a friend brought me the first record from the US for me. I became a big fan, and „Survive“ is the classic album for me from the 80’s. They were the first ones who mixed metal and hardcore.
SACRED REICH Surf Nicaragua
Edu: „Ignorance“, the first one, is a killer, and this 7“, „Surf Nicaragua“, was something different in my life. I always had to look at this drummer, he’s fucking amazing.
TERRORGRUPPE Enemy number one
Lalo: The best live band ever. We met them here in Brazil years ago, became friends, then they invited us to support them in Europe. It was a great time! We have chosen this one because it is in English and also a really kick ass song.
André: We had a great time together, we are friends till today, but unfortunately we won’t see them live anymore. I have learned a lot from these people, I love them!
NRA Too far gone
Lalo: I became a fan when Boka of Ratos de Porão gave me their CDs. A great mix of punk rock with surf music.
André: The problem here in Brazil is: American bands dominate everything. I would like to show the people here in Brazil that in Europe they have great bands as well, and NRA is my favorite, I love them!
HÜSKER DÜ Something I learned today
André: I bought this record when I was a kid, 13 years old, in 1986. It opened my ears for punk rock music, and at that time we didn’t have too many punk records around here, it was imported and cost us a fortune. Before this one I only listened to metal and I was not allowed go to a punk shop with long hair, otherwise the punks would kick my ass. But I did it!
R.D.P. Crianças sem futuro
André: We grew up listen to them, going to the shows, get kicked out, the best Brazilian band ever! We have been friends for a long time now, the drummer Boka is like our father, he put our first record out in 1997 when no one wanted to do it, so covering them is a honor for us. The best band over here in Brazil!
EXCEL Drive
Lalo: We first recorded ,Seeing insane“ in 2000 for our Record „Time To Know‘. From that Californian scene in the 80’s they are the best band, along with Suicidal Tendencies.
André: This record changed my life!
