All Bets Are Off

Tamar Aphek ist in der israelischen Indie-Szene keine Unbekannte. Nach ihren Post-Punk-, Indie- und Hardcore-Bands CARUSELLA sowie SHOSHANA und prämierten Filmmusiken („One Week And A Day“) startet Tamar Aphek (voc, gt) mit Uri Kutner (bs) und Yuval Garin, (dr) nun ein neues Projekt. Die neun Titel auf „All Bets Are Off“ klingen erst einmal gewöhnungsbedürftig. LOVELEY EGGS und PJ Harvey fallen einem unweigerlich ein, aber dazu kommt eine gewisse Sperrigkeit. Sei es der Gitarrensound (könnte auch von Jochen Arbeit stammen) oder auch die Songstruktur, denn hier wird sowohl versucht, verschiedene Rhythmen und Sounds zusammenzubringen: „I wanted to write a Johnny Cash style song, but then dress it up in crazy Max Roach style drumming (ein Jazz/Bebop-Pionier) or Ethiopian rhythms. I was getting a kick out of hearing something that could sound like a catchy indie song“, als auch zu trennen: „I wanted to create a shifting between bass, guitar and drum parts that were rhythmically syncing to parts in which the bass and the guitar plays against the kick drum. This shifting was meant to create a sence of tension und release throughout the album.“ Und das ist ihr exzellent gelungen.
